My little brother has to get glasses...im worried about him. please answer!?

My little brother is 8(about to be 9) he is already considered....well nerdy. Not really the best of lookers, obsessed with video games, and doesn't have a lot of friends. We recently found out he has to get glasses. When we were alone he looked at me and in the most scared/sad voice he said very quietly while looking down, "these glasses are going to make me look dorky,...aren't they?" I couldn't say anything. I was shocked and concerned. When I told my mom( she has glasses too) what he said she burst in tears exclaiming" they're going to pick on him like they did me when I was his age!". I was stunned,scared,and shocked all at the same time. I want to know what I should tell him to cheer him up and give him confidence. I also want to know what I should tell him if people did start to pick on him. Im also afraid he'll become depressed. Please help! I apologize for the length and thanks in advance...
